Ready For the Election To Be Over?

Pastor John Theisen, Midway Church | November 3, 2016 | Spiritual

It has been hard to get through a day without a mention of the presidential election. Whether the news, co-workers, or bumper stickers it is practically unavoidable. Voters are frustrated, embarrassed, and fearful about the result. I really appreciate the thoughts expressed by pastor-author Max Lucado in a blog post on October 11th. Here is a condensed version of Lucado’s “prediction” about the morning after the election. November 9th will bring another day of God’s perfect sovereignty. He will still be managing the affairs of the world. His providence has never depended on a king, pre...[read more]

What Do You See?

John Henry Theisen / Lead Pastor / midwaychurch.org | August 7, 2016 | Spiritual

Driving down the 380 corridor, what do you see and sense? Any number of things might come to mind including the following: frustration; thoughts of a longer commute; more traffic lights; business opportunities; “different” people; a higher price for our homes; higher taxes to fund schools and utilities; loss of intimacy; more strangers; uncertainty; windshield chips. Can we pause for just a moment and consider another perspective that is a bit less centered on our personal comfort and convenience? When Jesus saw multitudes of people, He saw them as SHEEP WITHOUT A SHEPHERD (Matthew 9:3536)...[read more]

The Necessity of Confession

RockHill Church | July 10, 2016 | Spiritual

In past articles we have discussed the things involved in the remission of our sins. We have examined the need for hearing the gospel, for believing that Jesus is the Son of God, and repenting of sins. Let us give consideration to both the need to confess and what we are to confess. Listen to Jesus in Matthew 10:32 … “Every one therefore who shall confess me before men, him will I also confess before my Father who is in heaven.” Let us further examine what God’s Word teaches us about the importance of confession. In Acts 8:35 the Eunuch from Ethiopia is taught about Jesus … “and Ph...[read more]

Don’t Worry- Give God Control

Greg Jones | May 6, 2016 | Spiritual

There are days and nights when I just find my mind going a million miles a minute! My nature is to plan and get out in front of things in regards to family, work, and free time. This isn’t a bad thing, but the problem is I invite a lot of worry and anxiety into my life because I want to be in control. Perhaps you can relate. Worry comes from thinking about the things you can’t control. What a waste of energy to do so! Yet we still do it. My wife, who is a professional counselor, is often reminding myself and others about the energy we waste from worrying and how unproductive it is. Did you...[read more]
