Prosper declares local state of disaster in response to virus
PROSPER (March 16, 2020) While there have been no confirmed cases of COVID-19 within the Town of Prosper, officials are taking proactive steps to minimize, mitigate and eliminate the conditions under which the virus is able to spread.
Today, the Town of Prosper has officially declared a local state of disaster. Among the actions this designation includes are:
• The Town’s Emergency Operations Center has been partially activated, and conditions are being constantly monitored by emergency personnel.
• All Town-sponsored programs, activities, and classes are suspended through March 27.
• The Prosper Public Library and the 407 Rec Center are closed through March 27.
• Prosper Municipal Court is delaying all Court proceedings until April 14.
• All closures and cancellations will be reassessed and modified as conditions change.
• Town Council and Board/Commission meetings are cancelled until further notice.
• All other Town offices will remain open during normal operating hours.
Surrounding communities and governmental offices, including Collin County and Denton County, have issued similar declarations, in accordance with the advice and counsel of local, state, and national health organizations.
Limiting the size of gatherings, canceling all but essential meetings, and active sanitation of facilities are ways in which the virus can be deterred from spreading. Residents are encouraged to visit the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) website at www.cdc.gov/covid19 or the Texas Department of State Health Services at https://www.dshs.texas.gov/ for information on how to further protect themselves from COVID-19.
Both Collin County https://www.collincountytx.gov/healthcare_services/Pages/news.aspx, and Denton County

also have useful information on their sites.
