Texas Silver-Haired Legislators Sought

NORTH CENTRAL TEXAS- Older persons with an interest in advocacy and public service are encouraged to participate in the Texas Silver-Haired Legislature (TSHL).  TSHL is a non-partisan statewide body of persons age 60 and over who draft proposed legislation on aging issues.  Legislative issues developed by the TSHL are presented for active consideration as bills to the Texas Legislature.


Silver-Haired Legislators are elected or appointed to two-year terms that begin in odd-numbered years.


The North Central Texas area currently has openings for three Silver-Haired Legislators.  Districts in need of representation are as follows:


District 1:          Denton and Wise counties

District 2:          Collin, Hunt, Kaufman and Rockwall Counties

District 3:          Erath, Hood, Palo Pinto, Parker and Somervell counties


Any Texan 60 years of age or older on January 1, 2020, and a registered voter living in the area where candidacy may be considered for participation.  Silver-Haired Legislators are responsible for their own expenses associated with local travel, travel to Austin, lodging, and incidental expenses.
