LITTLE ELM, TX – A family gathering at Little Elm Park Beach has resulted in the tragic drowning of a three-year-old female on the afternoon of May 26. 2018. The child’s family reported the missing child to park officials at approximately 3:29 p.m. In anticipation of the expected Memorial Day holiday crowds, the Town of Little Elm had enlisted additional staff from the Parks and Recreation Department, Little Elm Police officers, Fire Department personnel, EMS technicians, and numerous volunteers. An emergency communication regarding the missing child was made to all Town personnel at the park, and at 3:33 p.m., emergency respondents were notified that a child matching the description of the missing child had been found in the shallow portion of the lake, unconscious, unresponsive and not breathing.
Fire Department personnel immediately initiated CPR and ALS interventions while transporting the child to Medical City of Denton. Despite the uninterrupted efforts of the Little Elm Fire Department as well as the hospital’s emergency room personnel, the child was pronounced deceased at the hospital. The family’s identity is being withheld in order to allow them ample opportunity for adequate notification of kin. Officials from the Texas Department of Parks and Wildlife along with Little Elm Police Department have initiated an investigation into the particulars of the incident. There is no further information to share at this time.
