DENTON, TX – In our 33rd season, Music Theatre of Denton is excited to bring Evita the Musical to the historic Campus Theatre. Evita follows the young and ambitious Eva Peron’s meteoric rise to sainthood. Set in Argentina between 1934-1952, the Tony-winning musical follows Eva Duarte on her journey from poor illegitimate child to ambitious actress to, as wife of military leader-turned-president Juan Peron, the most powerful woman in Latin America, before her death from cancer at age 33. The events in Evita’s life are presented in song by the show’s narrator, Che. Well-known numbers from Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd Webber’s musical masterpiece include “Don’t Cry for Me Argentina,” “Oh What a Circus,” “Buenos Aires” and “Another Suitcase in Another Hall.” Performance dates are weekends of February 23 through March 4, 2018 with 7:30pm Friday and Saturday performances, and Sunday 2pm matinees. “With such a well-rounded and diverse group of actors, we are proud and excited to share Evita with the community. We’re having a fantastic experience learning about Eva Peron and understanding life in 1940’s Argentina and cannot wait to bring this story to life on stage,” explains Broadway World Senior Editor and Evita Director Kyle Christopher West.
