AUBREY, TX – Trevor Freeman is the newest Eagle Scout recipient of Troop 1300 in Aubrey. Trevor, son of Doug and Shannon Freeman, received his award at an Eagle Court of Honor held on June 3rd in Oak Point. Freeman installed the flag pole at a local meetinghouse of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints for his Eagle Project. Previously, the building had been the only Church meetinghouse in the region without one. Regarding patriotic respect, as symbolized by the American flag, Freeman said, “I think it’s important that we show it; as Church members and as citizens.” Jon Lawson, Freeman’s bishop, said that “I think it helps the community see that we support the country” and “is a significant part of who we are.”

Scouting has long been associated with character development and Freeman exemplifies its principles well. His leaders and family both commented on his example of living the Scout Oath and Law: “One of the neatest things about Trevor is that he’s always been one to reach out to other boys in need” and “he’s never been judgmental” of their circumstances, said Lawson. Freeman’s mother, Shannon, said that his spirituality has grown because “he’s learned to do hard things” and “be challenged.” According to Freeman, Scouting “teaches you humility” and “definitely brings you closer to God.”
