The photography portion of 2017 Thin Line Fest, April 19-23, will be larger than ever, organizers say, just in time to celebrate the event’s 10-year anniversary. Thin Line Fest is the only event in Texas to offer documentary films, live music and photography exhibits. General admission will be free this year in recognition of achieving the ten-year milestone. “We are excited to see an increase in photography submissions from extremely talented photographers,” Ed Steele, photography director, said. “As our name suggests, we are always pushing that thin line a little further and this year we’ve narrowed our photography submission categories down to just one, “Show Us Your Best Work”. Photographers were asked to submit the one image (or series of images) that clearly defined their style, scope and passion.” The photography for this year’s event not only comes from the Denton and DallasFt. Worth, Texas area, but also from other parts of the country, including New York, Iowa, Illinois, Arkansas and New Jersey.
Thin Line Fest’s Photography Experience galleries will have over 100 printed images at The Patterson-Appleton Arts Center (PAAC), and an outdoor exhibit on the Square in downtown Denton. Galleries will also include a Young Artist Series, presented by DATCU Credit Union, featuring work from students at Denton Ryan High School, Koan School, Denton Independent School District’s Advanced Technology Complex and more. A special gallery at the Golden Triangle Mall at Loop 288 will showcase photos from a few of this year’s featured films. Thin Line Fest will feature workshops on image copyright laws, drone photography and more. “We’ll have plenty of surprises in store for festival goers,” Steele added.
Photographers whose images will appear at Thin Line Fest are Jesse Anderson, Anna Baack, Rudy Cervantez, Charlie Collier, Claire DeJarnett, Brian Doore, Shannon Drawe, Angelika Ejtel, Connor Fenwick, Charlene Ferguson, Elizabeth Harding, Stephanie Holloway, James Holt, Ingeborg Jaynes, Preciosa Johnson, Jill Jordan, Chance Kirby, Erika Kuciw, Kendra Laflin, Michael Leza, Kylie McLaughlin, Debra Miller, Will Milne, Katie Montgomery, Ray Murphy, Maegan Noel, Nick Paugh, Katie Reese, Mary Simon, David Simpson, Patti Simpson, Matt Sims, Curtis Smith, Abby Stanford, Skyler Styron, Jason Thornton, Geoffrey Ussery and Adam Van Fossen.
